Coated Fabric

For 80% of performance outerwear applications, laminated fabric is the better choice. The combination of waterproofness, breathability, and fabric-like drape justifies the higher cost. Choose coated fabric only for budget-conscious products, applications where breathability is not critical (tents, bags, industrial covers), or when the coating adds specific functional benefits (PVC for maximum waterproofness). For professional rainwear, ski wear, and outdoor shells, lamination is the standard.
